Got my first snowfall for the season today.   My truck was finished this morning.  Checked out of the hotel and went to the Daily yard.  I took a truck that had to go to International in Harrisburg and dropped it off.  Then got my truck and brought it back to Carlisle.  Then got another step deck trailer and went to JLG in Shippensburg and loaded a JLG Boomlift 860SJ that is going to Ocala, Florida.

I left there but didn't go very far.  Stopped for my 10 hours at the AC&T truck stop in Hagerstown, Maryland.  Didn't really want to go through Washington DC at rush hour, in the snow on a Friday afternoon.  I'd rather do that in the middle of the night.

The truck is still in the shop and I'm still in the hotel.

Monday, November 18, 2024

This morning I drove the rest of the way to Taylor, PA, and delivered the crane stuff.  From there I drove to the "home office" in Carlisle, PA.  After being dragged around in the mud it knocked the front end way out of alignment.  It was so bad that it really chewed up my steer tires. See the steel cords starting to protrude?

When I got to Carlisle they took my truck in and started to work on it.  They said I'll be here for a few days because it also was due for a bunch of service.  I gathered my stuff and went to the hotel where I'll be for a couple days.

Thursday, November 14, 2024

This morning the heavy machinery came and cleared as much of the mud as possible and made a better road in and out.  Then the crane came in and got set up.  I was moved out of the way to the other side of the job site.   There were four other trucks lined up on the hardtop road plus a 12-axle truck.

Once the crane got set up they loaded three of the four trucks.  Then they loaded the crane house on the 12-axle truck.  Once that was done they could take the tracks off the crane that we were moving.  They moved me into position and then loaded my trailer.   Then they loaded the last remaining truck with a load exactly like mine.

I left there and went a few miles down the road to a convenience store with some truck parking.  I'll wait a few hours and then head out.  All this stuff is going to Taylor, Pennsylvania.

Wednesday, November 13, 2024

I left in a thunderstorm at 3 AM CST and drove to Atchison, Kansas.  Where I am loading is on the backside of the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum.  I have no idea what they are doing there, but I'm loading sections of a crane and taking them to Pennsylvania.  I didn't know it, but it loads tomorrow, not today.  This is not a great place to get to with a truck.  There are no major roads, all narrow back roads.  There is only one way in and out of the job site.  When I found out where that was, I went in.  Of course, I got stuck in the thick slippery mud.  I was pulled out by a dozer.  The video below is long but it shows the story pretty well.

I'll be here for the night.

Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Last night I left at about 8:30 PM CST and drove the rest of the way to Colwich, Kansas.  I was a day early and they weren't ready for me.  They eventually came and unloaded me.  I was out of there before noon.  Because I was out of hours for today I drove to the closest truck stop, a Love's in Wichita, KS for the night.  Another 600+ mile day.  Now I'm going to relax and sleep A LOT.  Good night.

Monday, November 11, 2024

I left at about 11 PM last night.  Light rain off and on.  While coming down a hill on I-77 in West Virginia I could see that something wasn't right ahead.  As I got closer I could see that a motorhome with a trailer was in the ditch on my side of the road facing the wrong way.  As I got closer, at 65 MPH, I started to slide sideways.  Fortunately, I didn't end up like the motorhome.  You have to look closely at the video, but you can see me starting to slide sideways and recover from the slide.  Expand the video to get a better look at it

The rest of the day was uneventful. Stopped at the Love's truck stop in Haubstadt, Indiana for my 10 hours.  628 miles today.

Sunday, November 10, 2024

At about 11 PM last night I left and headed to Goldsboro, North Carolina with another stepdeck trailer.  When I got there I loaded a bunch of stuff for BIG electrical transformers that are going to Colwich, Kansas.

I left there and drove to the Petro truck stop in Mebane, North Carolina.  546 miles today.

Monday, November 4, 2024

This morning I drove to Ormond Beach and loaded some parts for a Checkers restaurant.  There were several other Daily trucks loading the rest of the building.  The restaurant is being built in Jacksonville.  After loading I drove back to the Daily yard in Jacksonville to wait.  They will call in the morning sometime when they are ready to unload me.  The others will get unloaded first.

Sunday, November 3, 2024

Well, the Gators held their own against the Georgia Bulldogs.  Much better than I expected.

When my 10 hours were up, I left.  Took a nap along the way but finally made it back to the Daily Terminal in Jacksonville.  The deer were a bit active this morning.

Now it is time to get some sleep.

Saturday, November 2, 2024

I left this morning as soon as my 10 hours were up.  This is the trailer I took.  It is a 3-axle, stretch step-deck trailer.

Did good on the road.  Even Atlanta wasn't bad.  BUT Chatanooga was a mess, as usual.  I made it to Manchester, Tennessee, and dropped off the trailer.  Then, I headed back toward Jacksonville bobtail.  Stopped at the Pilot truck stop in Calhoun, Georgia for my 10 hours.  659 miles today.

Now it's time for some great SEC College Football.  I'll watch my Gators get crushed by Georgia.

Friday, November 1, 2024

I left early and drove a little over an hour to a mine in Wadley, Alabama.  Had to wait for the crane to get there.  In the meantime, I took a nap.  When the crane got there and all setup, I got unloaded.  I left there and drove to the Daily Terminal in Jacksonville, Florida.  I'm dropping my trailer there and taking another trailer up to Manchester, Tennessee.  I'll leave here when my 10 hours are up.

Wednesday, October 30, 2024

I left at about 3 AM CDT and drove to Oklahoma City, OK and loaded what they call a "Topshell Assembly".  I think it is the top section of a rock crusher, but I'm not sure.  Anyway, it is going to Wadley, Alabama.

I left there and drove over to the Daily terminal in OKC to stop by and say "Hi" to a friend that I haven't seen in a long time.  After that I drove to the TA truck stop in Atkins, Arkansas for my 10 hours.  496 miles today.

Tuesday, October 29, 2024

I left at sunrise this morning. It was a good day on the road until Dallas. Then, there was heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. When I got north of Dallas, my permit route had me on city streets for the last 27 miles. It took two hours to travel those 27 miles.  I made it to deliver with less than 15 minutes before they closed for the day.  I delivered the dozer.  There was a place to park there for the night, so I'll do my 10 hours there.  My next load is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the morning. Drove 493 miles today.

Monday, October 28, 2024

Went to Creve Coure, Illinois first thing this morning and loaded a Caterpillar D6 Dozer that is going to Aubrey, Texas.

I left there in pretty good time and drove 486 miles to the TA truck stop in Earl, Arkansas for the night.

I got up at midnight and did two loads of laundry. When that was done, I left.  Drove the rest of the way to Frankfort, Illinois, and delivered the wheel loader.  My next load is Monday in Creve Coeur, Illinois.  That is just outside of Peoria.  I drove to the Daily terminal in Morton, IL for the rest of the weekend.  Short day today, only 386 miles.  Now it is time for another great weekend of SEC college football!!!  Gators are off this weekend.

Friday, October 25, 2024

I left at about 2:45 this morning and drove the rest of the way to Shippensburg, PA.  I stopped along the way and got the truck washed and got fuel too. Then loaded a Volvo L90H Wheel Loader that is going to Frankfort, Illinois.

Left there in real good time.  Drove to the Petro truck stop in Perrysburg, Ohio for the night. Only 469 miles today.

Thursday, October 24, 2024

I left at 2 AM EDT and drove the rest of the way to North Reading, Massachusetts and delivered the skid steer. I can't understand why anyone would want to live up here!!!  My next load is tomorrow in Shippensburg, PA.  I headed that way.  Stopped for the night at the Flying J truck stop in Frystown, PA.  Had to stop there because there was a bad wreck about 10 miles ahead that had I-81 shut down.  615 miles today.

Wednesday, October 23, 2024

Wednesday, October 23, 2024

I left at about 1:30 AM EDT.  Had a lot of slow-n'-go traffic in Washington DC, Fredericksburg, VA, and Baltimore, MD. Aside from that and heavy traffic all day, I drove 600 miles to the TA truck stop in Maybrook, New York. I'm tired!

Delivered the wheel loader first thing this morning.  Left there and headed toward Brunswick Georgia for my next load.  Unfortunately, when I left it was rush hour so I got in a lot of heavy and bumper-to-bumper traffic.  Drove back to the Daily terminal in Jacksonville for the night. Will load in the morning.

Saturday, October 19, 2024

I left before sunrise this morning and drove down to Davie, FL to a truck stop that I do not like to go to but it was on the other side of the Turnpike from where I'm delivering Monday.  This place is very expensive to park in and it is always very full.  Plus it is difficult to back into parking places because it is so tight in here.  I was lucky to get a spot.  466 miles today.  Even though it is on the other side of the Turnpike from me, it will still take about 30 minutes to get there.

Now I can settle in for the rest of the afternoon and watch some great SEC College Football.  GO GATORS!!!

Friday, October 18, 2024

I left this morning and got to Washington DC at rush hour.  I was totally stunned that I made it through with no traffic problems.  All the way along I-95 I passed hundreds of power trucks all heading north.   Drove 677 miles stopping only twice along the way.  Stopped for the night at the TA truck stop in Richmond Hill, Georgia.

Thursday, October 17, 2024

I left early this morning and drove the rest of the way to Bloomingburg, NY and delivered the wheel loader when they opened.  My next load was in Shippensburg, PA.  I drove there.  My load appointment was not until tomorrow morning.  I was lucky and was able to move it up to today.  When I got there I checked in and got my trailer ready.  They went to start the machine and the batteries were dead.  To make matters worse, there was damage to the machine that they had to fix.  Three hours later the machine was loaded on my trailer, a Volvo L120H Wheel Loader that is going to Davie, Florida.

I left there but didn't go very far.  Stopped for the night at the TA truck stop in Greencastle, PA.  I'm tired and have a headache.  Going to bed.  Good night.

Wednesday, October 16, 2024

Wednesday, October 16, 2024

My 10 hours were up at 12:45 AM EDT and I left.  I had no traffic problems at all through Richmond, VA, Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, or Harrisburg, PA.  Made it through all of them before rush hour!!  Drove 504 miles non-stop, to the Petro truck stop in Scranton, PA.  My truck was due for an oil change and other preventative maintenance so I got that done there.

Left there and drove to the Petro truck stop in Kenly, NC for my ten hours.

Here in Jacksonville, we got very little of the hurricane.  It moved further south than predicted, which was good!! We got rain and wind but no big deal here.

This morning I left at 3 AM EDT and drove down to Riverview, FL.  I got there just before they opened and delivered the telehandler.  My next load is back at the Port of Jacksonville on Monday morning.  I drove back to where I started from at the Daily Terminal in Jacksonville.  I'll be there until Monday morning.  Now I can settle in for a good weekend of SEC college football.  GO GATORS!!!!

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

I left at midnight and drove to the Daily Terminal in Jacksonville.  The storm was still quite a ways away so no real effects from it yet.  It is moving a bit farther south than initially forecast.  Here is what it looks like now.

I'll update the blog if anything interesting happens.  I don't think I'll get much of it here since it shifted a bit farther south.  We'll see.  Stay tuned....

I drove the rest of the way to Elkridge, MD this morning and was there when they opened.  I got unloaded pretty quickly and left for my next load.  Drove to McConnellsburg, PA, and loaded a Caterpillar TL1255 Telahandler that is going to Riverview, Florida.  Heading back into another hurricane!!  Riverview is just outside of Tampa.

Left there and drove back to the AC&T truck stop in Hagerstown, MD, right back where I started this morning.  Had to stop way early today because I ran out of hours on my 70-hour clock.
