Thursday, November 14, 2024

This morning the heavy machinery came and cleared as much of the mud as possible and made a better road in and out.  Then the crane came in and got set up.  I was moved out of the way to the other side of the job site.   There were four other trucks lined up on the hardtop road plus a 12-axle truck.

Once the crane got set up they loaded three of the four trucks.  Then they loaded the crane house on the 12-axle truck.  Once that was done they could take the tracks off the crane that we were moving.  They moved me into position and then loaded my trailer.   Then they loaded the last remaining truck with a load exactly like mine.

I left there and went a few miles down the road to a convenience store with some truck parking.  I'll wait a few hours and then head out.  All this stuff is going to Taylor, Pennsylvania.

I left in a thunderstorm at 3 AM CST and drove to Atchison, Kansas.  Where I am loading is on the backside of the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum.  I have no idea what they are doing there, but I'm loading sections of a crane and taking them to Pennsylvania.  I didn't know it, but it loads tomorrow, not today.  This is not a great place to get to with a truck.  There are no major roads, all narrow back roads.  There is only one way in and out of the job site.  When I found out where that was, I went in.  Of course, I got stuck in the thick slippery mud.  I was pulled out by a dozer.  The video below is long but it shows the story pretty well.

I'll be here for the night.

Last night I left at about 8:30 PM CST and drove the rest of the way to Colwich, Kansas.  I was a day early and they weren't ready for me.  They eventually came and unloaded me.  I was out of there before noon.  Because I was out of hours for today I drove to the closest truck stop, a Love's in Wichita, KS for the night.  Another 600+ mile day.  Now I'm going to relax and sleep A LOT.  Good night.

I left at about 11 PM last night.  Light rain off and on.  While coming down a hill on I-77 in West Virginia I could see that something wasn't right ahead.  As I got closer I could see that a motorhome with a trailer was in the ditch on my side of the road facing the wrong way.  As I got closer, at 65 MPH, I started to slide sideways.  Fortunately, I didn't end up like the motorhome.  You have to look closely at the video, but you can see me starting to slide sideways and recover from the slide.  Expand the video to get a better look at it

The rest of the day was uneventful. Stopped at the Love's truck stop in Haubstadt, Indiana for my 10 hours.  628 miles today.

At about 11 PM last night I left and headed to Goldsboro, North Carolina with another stepdeck trailer.  When I got there I loaded a bunch of stuff for BIG electrical transformers that are going to Colwich, Kansas.

I left there and drove to the Petro truck stop in Mebane, North Carolina.  546 miles today.
