Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Left this morning at sunrise.  Traffic was heavy all day.  Virginia cops were out in mass!!  They were everywhere!!!  Stopped at the Petro truck stop in Glade Spring, Virginia.  Will be here until Friday morning because of the Thanksgiving holiday.  Had to spin the machine around to get the weight correct for Tennessee.  Virginia requires the boom to be facing the rear, Tennessee doesn't.  But that puts more weight on the drive axles of the truck.  In Virginia, that's OK.  But in Tennessee it isn't.

Was at Cummins in Harrisburg before they opened.  They got started on my generator right away and fixed it real fast.  I was on my way to Baltimore by 9:15 am.  Got to the port and loaded a Caterpillar 329F Excavator that is going to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Got on the road in good time and drove to the Pilot truck stop in Harrisonburg, Virginia for the night.  Tomorrow will be a short day.  Can only drive until noon in Virginia because of the Thanksgiving holiday.  It is SOOOOO nice to have my generator working again!!!!

Monday, November 23, 2015

Got started this morning a little after sunrise.  Had to time it so that I arrived at the edge of the curfew limits right at 9 am.  I was pretty close.  Met the cop for my escort in Philadelphia on I-95 at exit 13.  That is right in front of the airport.

Glad he was there.  He knew right where I was going.  Along the way passed the Lincoln Financial Field where the Philadelphia Eagles play.

It was a very tight squeeze getting in to deliver, but I made it and delivered the dozer.  Left there and went back to the "home office" in Carlisle, PA.  Have an appointment up in Harrisburg in the morning to get my generator fixed.  In the mean time I can plug in to shore power.

Left Carlisle this morning and drove to a diner with truck parking in Ronks, PA.  Had to get to the other side of Harrisburg to get ahead of the curfew. Have to have a police escort in Philadelphia tomorrow.  He is to meet me at 9:30 in the morning over near the airport.

Saturday, November 21, 2015

Got started just before sunrise.  Drove up to Carlisle, PA to the "home office".  Dropped my trailer in the yard and went over to the Petro truck stop for a shower and to do some laundry.  After that was done went back to the Daily yard so I could plug in to shore power.  Tomorrow I'll move closer to Philadelphia.  Finished with everything and got a delicious pizza just in time for football!!!

Another horribly played game.  They were out played totally and did not deserve to win, but they did in overtime.  Next week Florida State Seminoles.  If the Gators don't shape up quick, Florida State is gonna murder them. And it aint gonna be pretty!!!!

Friday, November 20, 2015

Waited for the Lexington, KY curfew to be over and timed it just right.  Got to Lexington right at 9 am.  Had a very uneventful day on the road. Stopped for the night at the Pilot truck stop in Grantsville, Maryland.  Still no generator!!

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Left the rest area just before sunrise this morning and drove in to the job site in Louisville, Kentucky.  Delivered the crane.  Next load was on the other side of Louisville.  Went there and loaded a John Deere 650 Dozer that is going up to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Made it out of Louisville before curfew but was not going to make the Lexington curfew so I stopped for the night at the Flying J truck stop in Waddy, Kentucky.  That's when things started to go bad.  My generator would not start!!  Says the starter is bad.

Wednesday, November 8, 2015

Yesterday I got a few things fixed on the sleeper. All better now.  This morning I went to Columbus, Ohio and loaded a crane that is going to Louisville, Kentucky.

For a change the rain held off until I was finished loading.  Left there but didn't get very far.  Ran out of dayight.  Stopped for the night at a rest area on I-70 just east of Dayton.

Monday, November 16, 2015

Drove the rest of the way into Chicago, Illinois and delivered the wheel loader.  After that drove over to ARI in Shipshewana, Indiana to get a couple things fixed in the sleeper.  My appointment is tomorrow afternoon.  I can plug in to shore power here so I don't have to run the generator.  Couple of rainy days coming.

Thursday, November 12, 2015

Slept in this morning since I didn't have any permits.  A little after 9 am CST they started to come in. Missouri first, then Kansas.  I plotted out the route on Google Maps.

Just as I finished another driver knocked on my door. "Do you know that you have a flat?" No I didn't.  Had not been outside the truck yet.  He was right.  Flat as a pancake!  So instead of getting on the road I drove around to the shop and had it fixed.  They found two holes.  Here is the culprit from one of them.

About an hour and a half later I finally got on the road.  The trip would normally be about 220 miles.  The stupid State of Kansas turned it into 379 miles and 7 hours driving!!  I arrived in Wichita too late in the afternoon to deliver today so I stopped at another dinky truck stop for the night.

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Left the truck stop a half hour before sunrise this morning.  Only a few sprinkles last night.  No weather.  Started off mostly clear but soon changed to overcast.  After a while it became partly cloudy and VERY windy.  It seems Kansas is having a difficult time trying to find a route for heavy trucks.  My Kansas permit was voided so I was sent another one.  This afternoon they voided that one too because they still had problems with the route.  I had to stop at the Petro truck stop in Oak Grove, Missouri until they figured out which way they wanted me to go and resend another permit.  I might have to wait for a new Missouri permit too because of where I am entering Kansas. Initially I was to go around the south side of Kansas City now I might be going around the north side.  That might be changed.  Don't know yet. When I stopped at Oak Grove and got out of the truck it was still VERY WINDY!!  I looked up and saw the cold front over my head.  Here it is.

Fortunately there was no rain.  It all went north of here.  That was a very good thing.  But this truck is really rockin' from all this wind!!!!! We are under a tornado watch and a high wind warning.  Wind is constant at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph!!

Permits didn't come in today so here I sit until they get here.

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Got started right at sunrise this morning.  Nothing exciting today. Rain for the first part then sunny.  Several routings off the Interstate through the back roads today.  Just a very nice day on the road. Stopped for the night at some dinky truck stop in Olney, Illinois because I ran out of daylight.  Weather report says strong storms possible tomorrow.  Sounds like fun!!

Monday, November 9, 2015

This morning went over to the Port of Baltimore in Dundalk, Maryland and loaded a Caterpillar 329 Excavator that is going out to Wichita, Kansas.

Haven't posted one of these in a while, so here is my scale ticket.

Left there in pretty good time and made the slow trip through the mountains on I-70 and I-68.  Stopped for the night at the TA truck stop in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Sunday, November 8, 2015

Very early this morning went over to the Petro truck stop in Carlisle to have my tires checked and a leak repaired.  When that was done I went over and got the truck and trailer washed.  Both were a mess from the Quarry the other day.  Then drove down to the TA truck stop in Baltimore, Maryland.  Load at the Port in the morning.
